Our 4-Step
Audit Process
From initial consultation to compliance report delivery, we handle every step of your ASHRAE Level 2 energy audit with transparency and expertise.
Free Consultation
We start with a no-obligation conversation about your building and BPS requirements. During this consultation, we:
- → Verify BPS Applicability: Determine if your building falls under Oregon's BPS mandate based on size, type, and location
- → Explain Your Deadlines: Clarify your specific compliance timeline based on building size and energy intensity
- → Review Incentives: Discuss Energy Trust of Oregon rebates and early compliance incentives available to you
- → Answer Your Questions: Address any concerns about the audit process, timeline, and what to expect
This consultation is completely free and helps us understand your building's specific needs before moving forward.
Site Assessment
Our certified auditors visit your building to conduct a comprehensive physical assessment. This critical step includes:
- → Detailed Building Walkthrough: Complete inspection of all building systems, equipment, and structural components
- → Equipment Inventory: Documentation of all HVAC, lighting, controls, and mechanical systems with serial numbers and specifications
- → Energy Data Collection: Review of utility bills, metering data, and historical energy consumption patterns
- → Operational Review: Discussion with facility managers about maintenance practices, occupancy schedules, and operational procedures
- → Building Envelope Assessment: Visual inspection of insulation, windows, doors, and air sealing conditions
This assessment typically takes 1–3 days depending on your building's size and complexity. We collect all data necessary to conduct a thorough ASHRAE Level 2 audit.
ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audit
Using data collected during the site assessment, our certified QEA (Qualified Energy Auditor) conducts a comprehensive energy audit following ASHRAE Standard 100 and Oregon's building performance requirements. This includes:
- → Energy Benchmarking: Comparison of your building's energy performance against similar buildings and national standards
- → System Modeling: Computer modeling of your building's energy consumption under current and recommended conditions
- → Life Cycle Cost Assessment (LCCA): Financial analysis of energy efficiency improvements, including costs, savings, and payback periods
- → Recommendations Development: Identification of cost-effective energy efficiency measures ranked by payback period and annual savings
- → QEA Certification: All audit work performed by or under the supervision of a certified QEA with ASHRAE credentials
Our auditors hold ASHRAE BEAP, CEA, and CEM certifications, ensuring your audit meets all professional standards and Oregon requirements.
Report Delivery & Compliance
Upon completion of the audit, you receive a comprehensive, production-ready report that meets all Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) requirements for BPS compliance submission. We provide:
- → Full Audit Report: Complete documentation with all required sections for ODOE compliance certification
- → Executive Summary: High-level overview of findings, recommendations, and energy savings opportunities
- → LCCA Analysis: Detailed cost-benefit breakdown of all recommended energy efficiency measures
- → Submission Guidance: Step-by-step instructions for filing with ODOE and achieving compliance certification
- → Energy Trust Support: Assistance identifying rebate opportunities that can offset your audit costs and implementation expenses
Our team is available to answer questions about the report, discuss recommendations, and support you through the ODOE submission process. You'll have a clear roadmap for achieving BPS compliance.

Questions About Our Process?
What should I do to prepare for the on-site assessment?
Gather recent utility bills (12 months of data), compile equipment maintenance records, and prepare access to all building areas. Have key facility staff available to answer questions about building systems and operations. We'll provide a detailed preparation checklist before our visit.
Can building occupants remain during the assessment?
Yes, occupants can remain during the assessment. In fact, it's helpful for our auditors to observe normal building operations and discuss energy use patterns with staff. We'll coordinate the timing to minimize disruption to your business.
What if my building is complex or has multiple systems?
We've audited buildings of all types and complexities. Our ASHRAE Level 2 methodology scales to handle large, multifaceted buildings with multiple systems. We may allocate additional assessment days for complex properties, which is reflected in your project timeline.
Do I need to implement all recommendations in the report?
No. The audit report provides a menu of options ranked by payback period and savings potential. You can choose to implement one recommendation, several, or all based on your budget and priorities. The audit gives you the information to make informed decisions.
Will you help with ODOE submission?
Absolutely. We provide detailed submission guidance with your report and are available to answer questions about the ODOE filing process. Our audit reports are designed specifically to meet Oregon's requirements for compliance submission.
